Canaries: They Can Be Trained!

You may be thinking that canaries are animals that can't be trained. Oh then you're wrong. Not only cats and dogs can be trained or be good friends. Hamsters, canaries, parrots, mice and even fish can be trained and best be friends for you!

Here are some facts of trained canaries and some tips of how they can be trained!

Before the tips, we'll mention something.

  1. The tips you'll see are not working ALWAYS.
  2. Not ALL the birds-canaries can be trained.
  3. Not ALL the birds-canaries can be trained with the same way.
  4. Those tips are NOT for every bird, but especially for canaries.
So at first here are the basic!
  • Birds and especially small, like canaries, are getting scared too easy. So either you must have been close to the animals either the animal love you REALLY either get close to them now.
  • If it's a "shy" canary then there are two facts. 1. It's not trained at all the ways (e.g. climb to your hand) 2. It's not getting trained 3. Give it time to be calm
  • Don't think that the canary when gets scared and jumps to the cage is going to die from heart attack. It's not so easy. Of course, that doesn't mean you'll do pranks to it. But to be used to you and understand that you're not enemy and want its bad, it must be scared for no reason. Easy!
  • Be careful while you are working with it, and follow the rules below.

Now, easy ways for that
  • At first scare it and be careful! While you scare it OUTSIDE of the cage do not make it really get heart-attack and look at their eyes.
  • When it'll start open its mouth it's a good sign. Keep scare it, but calmer than before.
  • After, if it will open its mouth and have its wings down but also looks like it "attacks" you (See the picture) it's even better!!! It's used to you!
  • Give it some time, even if it's months and wait. But be careful, don't make it feel bad and leave you! Keep it "attack" you.
  • Someday it will be so used to you that PROBABLY can be climbing up your hands! Bites you! And more!!!
  • The most important part: Show and give it love.

Some canaries can touch only the part of "attack" and not climb to you, but it's okay, don't have to worry!

Tweety needed two months to climb up our hands. And Rina is only letting us to caress her, because we lost the chance to make her climb too... Recently I went and trained a canary in only two hours! But the truth is that the breed "Isabel" is a breed that can't be trained easily... So both, Rina and the canary I trained are not easy ones. And the canary I trained is still at first steps of training...

Hope this helped, contact us for any question you have!!!
